Always give your potential business contact your full attention because this will prevent you from making unfortunate blunders later on. You won't have to worry about getting the person's name wrong. Make sure that you will be able to recognize the person you are meeting. If you have never dealt with this potential customer in person before, this might not be a simple task to pull off. If you are dealing with someone who do not have any online pictures posted, then this will not be all that easy. Always get a recent photograph from the person before you meet with them. This will decrease the possibility of your ignoring the person once they have arrived. To be cordial, you want to extend the same courtesy and provide a picture too.
If you are arranging a meeting with someone, meet them at the actual place that you agreed to meet. If the place that you made arrangements for is not available once you get there, then advise the other person of what is happening. At this point, you can make further arrangements. Or, you can still go to the arranged location and find some other place in the general vicinity. Do not assume that things have changed and not tell your contact what is going on. This would be very rude and cost you a contact. There are all sorts of things that you can do to be a better networker. And you must learn how to work around mistakes so you don't make them. So go out and find some easy ways to start networking and you'll feel good about it.
